Life in old-time Sitges was made of fishing and winemaking of reds, Malvasia and Moscatel sweet wines.

Sitges was a hallmark for Catalan trade with the Americas, mostly for wine export. In the 18th 19th centuries ships and fishermen from Sitges could be found in almost any Mediterranean or American port. The population grew in numbers with the building of the road and railway station.
